Commercial Director & GM – Japan based Media Companyref: XX41354

Engaging with local (Japan) and central (UK) teams to define attractive partnership agreement terms
Management of local Commercial team, including direct personnel management of 2-3 executives
Senior commercial leadership and management role within Japan
Delivering subscriber growth in Japan
Execution of Japan rights acquisition and commercial partnerships strategies to meet agreed KPIs
Analysis of sports media industry trends to ensure a successful localisation of growth strategy
Building and maintaining strong local partner relations, supported by coordination with company group divisions to leverage established relationships
Lead regular business reviews to UK based HQ
Lead negotiation of commercial agreements, including distribution and media rights agreements

Ideal candidate

10+ years of relevant experience in the Japanese marketplace across commercial management, media rights acquisition and/or business development
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
Proven leadership abilities, supported by demonstrated track record in related industry role(s)
Exceptional knowledge of the Japanese sports media and new media industries
Strong relationship base across the rights holder, agency, broadcaster, OEM, commercial partner and new media markets
Demonstrated ability to engage and influence senior industry executives
Ability to secure and filter market intelligence to ensure accurate cost assessment of sports media rights, and successful commercial strategy design
Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up actions.
Exceptional communication skills across all levels of management, including Board level
Willingness to travel regularly within Japan and internationally
Totally fluent Japanese language and excellent business English skills are required
